There is only one Biblical way to identify a Prophet. That way is listed in Deu 18:22 and Jer 28:9. Prophets are not validated by any other means, "Did their word come to pass?" Signs and wonders, or the reading of your past, present, and future may be manifestations of certain gifts, but they in and of themselves, are not proof of one's Prophetic anointing/calling. The ability to read your mail, so to speak, are the word of wisdom and word of knowledge. These are used by the Holy Ghost through the Prophets in order to build someone's faith to receive the specific word the Lord has given the Prophet for them. Jesus at the well for example, used these to get the attention of the woman. (John 4:16-26). Why, so she would have faith to believe the other things He told her. Holy Ghost can use anyone to manifest gifts listed in 1 Corth 12:8-11. They are given, "as he will." A Prophet is part of what is called the "Five Fold Ministry." (Eph 4:11). These gifts are for the church (Eph 4:12). The specific function of the Prophet is to bring confirmation of correction, direction, and edification to the body. Note I used the word "confirmation". This is because all people in the church (New Covenant) should have Holy Ghost in their lives. He leads, guides, directs, teaches all those who are truly seeking God (Yahweh). So a Prophet's words to those people will be a confirmation of what Holy Ghost has been telling them. You will hear from without, what Holy Ghost has been telling you within, a confirmation. If a Prophet is sent to someone who is not seeking , or has grown stiff necked / hard headed from sin, and has turned off or from the voice of Holy Ghost, this Prophets words will probably be a harsh rebuke. Proverbs 31:6 says to give strong drink to him that is perishing. These words are meant to slap the person back into their senses. "Snap out of it!" If you stand around a true Prophet of Yahweh long enough. You will receive a Prophet's reward. Why, because you are tapping into the anointing and something will come out of the River of Life in that anointing. Beware, the reward you may receive is dependent upon your heart's condition toward God. There are positive and negative rewards. Oh, there is so much more about this office. One thing I do want to clear up before I quit. Prophesying , and Prophet are not synonymous. Prophesying does not make you a Prophet. All can prophecy by the power of Holy Ghost. But all are not Prophets.
